Ghostlight

To the dance
`Ghostlight `is a film about Martha Graham. It is well done and brilliantly acted by Richard Move as Martha. There were so many aspects to this creative individual. One of the most touching is the reenactment of Helen Keller's visit to her studio, where she was led around to touch and be touched by the dancers. We can see the beauty and joy of dance itself.
The film is 80 minutes long. There are several extras. The film of Martha performing one of her most famous dances, Lamentationis included. There is a 27 minute interview with the director and actor recalling their meetings and influences of Martha Graham. A theatrical trailer is also included.

One of the few irritations, but it definitely hinders the enjoyment is the poor and at times, fuzzy sound quality. There were points when the actors were talking so softly I could not tell what they were saying and there are no captions included.

Lovers of dance, the theater and Martha Graham would enjoy this...

A Turtle's Tale 2: Sammy's Escape From Paradise [HD]

A Turtle's Tale 2 Rocks! A beautiful adventure for the whole family.
My family truly enjoyed the first A Turtle's Tale, so we were very excited to watch this sequel. A Turtle's Tale 2: Sammy's Escape from Paradise has many of the same lessons as in the first story, that teach children about sealife, caring for the environment, teamwork and friendships. In this story Sammy and Ray are now much older and the adventure includes their adorable grandkids named Ricky and Ellen. Being the loving and caring grandfathers they are, they work to protect them from the dangers of the big wide open sea and in the end when Sammy and Ray need them the most, their grandkids are their for them.

This was another adventure with Sammy my whole family was able to enjoy together as a unit. Sometimes, some animated films fail to attract the attention of my whole family, A Turtle's Tale is definitely not one of them. I found the animation to be even better than the first film and the music is beautiful and so much fun. I would recommend this DVD for all ages and any...

AWESOME 3D EFFECTS!!!!
This by far has the best 3d i've ever seen on a movie. Great pop outs and depth and it is a really good movie.

Great story line and the most spectacular 3D only the first one A Turtles Tale, The secret passage is just slightly better this movie has great depth and serious pop outs I highly recommend this movie for your 3D display I have 120 3D movies and this and the first are the best excluding Avatar Buy it you wont be disappointed

SOOO not worth the money. Amateur videos like this should be free on Amazon, or very cheap and come labeled as student films. I am fine with people practicing their filmmaking, and bringing their efforts to Amazon - just please give us a warning about what kind of film it is, and don't ask your friends to write fake 5 star reviews, please!

Bottom Feeding
Here we have your standard creature feature with nearly every cliched element represented. You've got a group of cocky youngsters in a lake where there's no cell phone reception. You've got a curious mismatch of personalities, from the creepy loner to the blonde tease to the nerdy filmmaker wannabe and (of course) the alpha male joke. I mean, jock. You've even got a wizened old man who warns them about impending danger (they ignore the old fart, natch). Watch as they take a row boat into the middle of a lake and begin getting picked off, one by one, by some kind of giant, carnivorous fish.

Let's start with the only thing that works. I almost gave this movie one star but I decided not to solely because of the performances. These kids aren't portraying any group of seniors you'd ever want to know in real life, but at least they threw themselves into their roles wholeheartedly. Great B movie! This what you watch when you want to scare kids with a movie that doesn't have profanity and is hilarious. A killer catfish? Oh yeah pop the popcorn and get ready to laugh with your date.FYI, if not watching with kids you must be lifted or in the sky for best experience, it would be the Imax version.

Lord of the Flies (Criterion Collection)

Excellent, durable version of the Novel. Better than remake.
`Lord of the Flies' has been made into a movie at least twice since the William Golding novel of the same name became a cult classic / must read volume for high school and college students in the late 1950s. The first version, which follows the novel very closely, was done in black and white by the noted director, Peter Brook in 1963. The second version was done in color by Harry Hook and released in 1990.

Like many remakes in the same language, one immediately wonders why bother, as the original Brook version is more than gripping enough to convey the message of the novel.

To highlight the differences between the two versions, let me outline the story shared by the two versions.

The scene is set when an airplane carrying school children crashes in the South Pacific, of the coast of a remote tropical island. Approximately 30 of the children, ages 6 to 13 make it to shore and gather on the beach to work out how they are to survive and assume that since...

A Great Experience
It was a pleasure to see the original version of "Lord of the Flies" again. I'll be interested in seeing the DVD version as well, to see what additional material comes in that format. Having been one of the boys in the movie, I also appreciated seeing the reviews posted by other Amazon customers! I wonder if any of the other cast members have checked out this site...

I confess to liking the original version far more than the remake, but that's not surprising, I guess. I TRIED to keep an open mind when I saw the new version, but, alas, I failed. My recollections of running from the burning jungle, coughing, onto the beach at the end makes a black-and-white rendition seem more real to me.

Fantastic dvd of a superb film
I was terribly excited to discover that one of my favorite classic films, the 1963 Peter Brooks "Lord of the Flies" was on dvd. I was even more excited when I saw it had been given a deluxe treatment by some studio called Criterion.

"Lord of the Flies" was the first dvd I bought and it introduced me to the phenomenal Criterion Collection. Every extra on this dvd is fantastic and interesting, there is no filler or meaningless praise. The commentary alone is worth the price of this dvd, it gives a magnificent insight into how this film was made: for instance, the film was one of the first independent productions ever produced. This is one of those rare commentaries that adds to your appreciation and understanding of the film, I rank it alongside "Seven Samurai" and "Grand Illusion" (also both Criterion dvds) commentaries as among the best I have heard.

The film itself looks abolutely fantastic, worlds better than any vhs or laserdisc...

Single In Seattle: Vol. 2

Seattle Freeze - ugh!
Great information to consider if single and entertaining too for the price! I can see this being a good video to watch while at home contemplating relationships and where they are or aren't going - might make you think about what you need to change if your relationship isn't working.

I like volume two even more than one.
I liked volume two in this series even more than volume one. I really enjoyed the intelligent conversation the people interviewed have about dating and the emotional truths that come out of their stories. The people interviewed are very cool and I found their insights about dating and romance to be outstanding.
